It all started With an idea...

On January 25th, 2017 Jason Barnes had a simple idea: Create an online black literature book club for black people that connects the reader directly to the author. With the help of his best friend friend Shakirra Jones and many others, that idea grew legs and took action. Reading While Black is more than just a book club; It is an online community across several social media platforms  that celebrates and supports black literary works by us with us in mind. We at Reading While Black carefully select each monthly book to not only entertain our readers, but educate them. Our goal is to place a book in every black person's hand. Why do you ask? In the words of the great Fredrick Douglas, "Once you learn to read, you will be forever free".
